Phil recently visited the Canadian Light Source, Canada’s only synchrotron particle accelerator. He worked with beamline scientists to perform x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) experiments to measure the atomic structure of carbon dioxide conversion catalysts. He was trained on performing x-ray spectroscopy measurements on a range of elements such as Cu, Zn, Fe, Co, Mo, S, and O. Most importantly, he performed in-situ XAS experiments of a copper catalyst as it evolved with respect to actual reaction conditions. Phil was joined by his colleagues Rafael, Pelayo, and Min.
