At the time of this recording, Canada had just announced the end of its evacuation mission and two blasts outside the Kabul airport had killed dozens of people. The entire world is watching to see what happens next. Today I speak with Laila Balkhi, an Engagement & Policy Research Analyst at the Global Institue of Water Security who has parents in Kabul.
We talk about her remarkable journey fleeing Afghanistan in the 90s, growing up in Pakistan, and making her way to North America. We also discuss the stories of the Afghanistan people, how conflict in youth shapes one’s life, the uncertainty of Afghanistan’s future, and what we as Canadians can do to help.
