We know what we need to do to avoid the worst of the climate crisis. Unfortunately, so many people’s livelihoods still depend on fossil fuel industries. Growing up in Windsor during the fall of the automotive sector, I know what it’s like to live in a community dependent on one industry, and what happens when that industry fades away. That exact same thing is happening in today’s oil & gas industry. However, many of the skills we need to transition to a low-carbon economy exist in the tradespeople, technicians, and workers in today’s oil & gas industry.
In today’s vlog I speak with Luisa Da Silva, Executive Director of Iron & Earth, a non-profit organization that is focused on retraining oil & gas workers to be part of the clean energy economy. We talk about the cyclical nature of oil & gas, and the constant opportunity in a transition to clean technology.
Our campaign is funded by grassroots supporters like you who chip in what they can, when they can.
